WWI History Trivia: (1914-1918) Sweetheart Pincushions - These embroidered pin cushions were made by soldiers during WWI to send home to their wives, mothers, and sweethearts. They came in kits with everything they needed to use to make the cushions. They were usually made by soldiers who were in the hospitals to give them something to occupy them while their wounds were healing. These are mostly found all over Europe in antique shops.one cushion features a popular World War One poem that reads: When the golden sun is sinking, And your mind from care is free. When of others you are thinking, Will you sometimes think of me.
