Waiting by david m myles Standing in line waiting A job, a meal, a ticket A Stoic dying one cut at a time it is not your fate if you did not pick it Perhaps choice is an illusion free will a cruel ruse and the paths all lead to the thicket by whatever course you choose A vote for me shall set you free I stand for this or that As the wind blows the fates around And you grab for coat and hat Maybe God is pulling strings counting its riches in faith As it stands on the neck of the pious An insubstantial wraith Or just you and I standing still Upon these hallowed shores Making it up as we go along As led by politic whores
