Waiting has its rewards Psalms 25:3 No one who waits for you will ever be put to shame, but all who are unfaithful will be put to shame. (God’s Word Translation) Waiting is not a word or an act that we would want to embrace easily or willingly, however it can make a world of difference between purchasing an original item or a fake one. Years ago, I wanted to purchase a car we desperately needed as a family. At that time, my wife was away in America and, after viewing this car, I was ready to buy it. Instinctively I called her and informed her about my intended purchase and she cautioned me, insisting that I do a vehicle check on it, which would have cost extra money and another 3-4 days to get the car. I was eager and argued that the dealer was a trusted person as we had bought our previous car from them. She coaxed me to wait and do the checks. I reluctantly gave in, even though I really wanted to drive the car away immediately as the need to have a car was great. I did the checks and a few days later it came back that the car had been previously involved in an accident and was a write off with major defects. I was glad I waited and at the same time ashamed for not taking my wife’s advice immediately. The word ‘wait’ in the Hebrew means to ‘tarry’, and ‘patience’. Patience is the key lesson in this beatific. Many times, when we want something so badly and it’s within our reach, we don’t take the time to do thorough checks and investigations to make sure that it’s the right choice for us to make. When we hear that quiet voice asking us to wait, we tend to get upset and present many arguments as to why we need to do this immediately, or in many cases, ignore it, plunge right in and end up in a mess. There are many mistakes, sorrows, waste and failures, which we can avoid if we learn to wait on God. Imagine if I’d decided not to take my wife’s advice. I would’ve spent a fortune maintaining a car that, unknown to me then, was a write-off. Don’t be in a hurry to execute things or make life-altering decisions when the voice inside of you is telling you to wait and check it out first. Waiting truly has its rewards. Remember if you wait on the Lord and wait for Him, He would renew your strength and you will never be ashamed.
