Waking up early this morning & hearing the news of #StuartScott s passing struck oddly deep at home & heart with me. Tears rolled freely for a while even after quickly turning ESPN off. Cancer is a killer. Just last year Stuart took the time to tweet back and forth with me some, swapping cancer stories & actually being humorous about some aspects of treatment people who havent experienced before, cant understand...his willingness to encourage me in my own battle at that time was testament to the quality of his character & selfless nature. Hes known worldwide, Im a nobody, but he treated me like a brother. How he lived, humbly & whole heartedly is what I hope to honor with this post. Cancer does that. It humbles & it hurts. All day Ive struggled in a fear & a mourning of my own eventual finality. But I encourage all of you, whether a cancer victim, survivor, or carrier of any other life threatening disease or even a perfectly healthy person who simply consistently dwells on the inevitability of death, consider: For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I was reminded by those closest to me today & hope maybe I can do the same for you in saying, you have to LIVE life to its absolute fullest & whether tomorrow or 30 years from now I leave this life, my days with family, friends & my Father are the greatest gifts Ill ever own & fear has no room nor right to roam in those relationships in an attempt to ruin them. Wreck your fear by embracing the Father & your amazing & deserving families(which only you can define.) Hug em hard & let them see your heart full of hope.
