Waldo County Sheriffs Office - Explorer Program Today was day 3 of the Extreme Duty Law Enforcement Exploratory. The students went to sleep at 10pm last night and were called out around 11pm to respond to a mock motor vehicle crash. The driver (Deputy Oettinger) fled on foot and thee students called out Trooper Verhille to track the suspect. All the students got to run a full K9 track to experience how officers can be called out from home and thrust into extreme circumstances. The track lead to the arrest (made by the students) on the suspect. They used their recently learned handcuffing techniques and their recent K9 training and sucessfully completed the training call. After their climbing the day before and the K9 callout, the class was up at 630 for Drill practice and morning PT. Next they got back into more challenges, outdoor survival training and a 50 foot outdoor rope pendulum where they swung approximately 200 feet. This is called the leap of faith and was used as team building. They students went through multiple more team building excersizes and eventually ednded up back at Mount View after their overnight trip to Camp Kieve. A huge thank you goes out to the staff at Kieve and the camp itself for providing this amazing opportunity to the students of RSU-3. Another thank you goes to MELMAC for funding this portion of the class. Instructors for the day: Trooper Wuthenow Deputy Tozier Deputy Laite Deputy Oettinger
