Walk Presentation Evening Update – Supporters, Walkers and local charities gathered for the presentation event at The Royal Yacht Hotel on Monday night to celebrate raising £90,000 following June’s Itex-Rotary Trust’s Around the Island Walk and Lieutenant Governor’s Challenge Walk. During the celebratory presentation evening benefitting charities were awarded their donations by His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, supported by the Itex-Rotary Trustees. This year, 1,151 walkers took part in either the full 48.1-mile Walk or the third stage of the Lieutenant Governor’s Challenge Walk from Les Fontaines to Le Braye. In addition to the distribution of charitable donations, several walkers were recognised for their efforts. John Willcox aged 76 (the oldest Walker who was also the oldest Walker in 2009 and 2011), Thomas Beaugie aged 10 (the youngest Walker who was also the youngest Walker in 2012) and Mallika Neale who received a special award in recognition of her valued and continued support for many years travelling over from the UK especially to assist at various Walk checkpoints. All of the award winners received a one-off commemorative Checkpoint Charlie pin-badge, designed by exclusive jewellers, Aurum. Local charities being supported in the 2013 Walk were 7 Overseas (Island of Jersey) Squadron, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Mind Jersey. In addition, another 14 local organisations benefitted from the donations raised by the Walkers and their numerous supporters.
