Walked into the orthodontists office today. An older gentleman walks in behind me. The receptionist asks if he needs help. He says hes waiting for his daughter and grandchildren. They have a consult and hes there to help her make treatment decisions. He says something about working in the industry. The daughter came in with the kids a few minutes later. She seemed frustrated with Dad, who asked whether the X rays were necessary and cautioned her about doing early ortho work and urged her to consider all treatment options, including waiting until the kids were closer to puberty. She seemed annoyed. I wanted to sit down beside her and take her hand and tell her to listen. To be grateful that hes still here and that he cares and that my Dad said all the same things to me and that I was so glad I listened and that I wish he was still here. I wanted to. But I didnt. I sat there and tried not to cry and missed my Dad. He always has to show up there....
