Want to transform your house into an #eco home? See how you can go green and visit a @SuperHomes_SEA open day superhomes.org.uk/ Salford Energy House – 400 sensors and solid wall insulation bit.ly/1uCNJ28 What do you get when you carry out a whole house retrofit under environmentally controlled conditions and measure the impact with over 400 sensors? Headline results: 63% reduction in heat loss (solid wall insulation being responsible for 72% of this) 50% reduction in air leakage (42% from the new airtightness membrane) Heating bills in the property down from £554 to £206 (a £348 saving!) In this project involving Salford and Leeds universities and Saint-Gobain, a fabric first approach was taken on a full scale typical 1919 end-of-terrace house in a controlled chamber. This is a chamber in which weather conditions like rain, snow, wind and temperature can be produced at the flick of a switch. External wall insulation was fitted to the side and rear of the house. Internal wall insulation was fitted to the front wall. Loft insulation was topped up, underfloor insulation was added and existing double glazing was upgraded.
