Want to try an experiment with me? Spinach sown in mid August for harvest late September until the first frosts. Im going to sow the seeds initially in pots and then transplant to the open ground a couple of weeks later. They can also be grown in a large pot. Now I dont like spinach just by itself but there are loads of savoury recipes where it is delicious. First there is ham, potato and spinach pasty and another really tasty one is bacon and spinach quiche. Its also a tasty and nutritious veg to add to any stock you make. For babies, there is a haddock, spinach and potato baby meal. To grow spinach youll need some 8cm pots, multi-purpose compost and a pack of spinach seeds which are OK for a late summer sowing. Perpetual spinach or Spinach F1 Reddy from Suttons will do fine. Ill post progress as they are sown and grow, excuse any failures because this is a first for me. If we manage to get a crop Ill post a video (warts, stutters, nervous explanations and all showing how I cooked the pasty or the quiche. You can post any questions you have here as they arise. Lets start with a couple of pictures of the hoped for results!
