Wanted to share with you a little insight into the difficult dilemmas and consequences of decision that sometimes have to be made to ensure the safety of animals. A mother and kitten were living under a shed in Preston Alley Cats and Kittens were called out, mum was caught but kitten was sadly left, if mum at that point would have been let out of the trap, the chances of catching her again would have been impossible. Fortunately after a sleepless night for all involved, kitten was caught the day after. To also find fosteres able to take a kitten and mum is difficult, so a decision was made to split mum and kitten up, kitten was around 6 weeks old and eating fine. A fabulous Fosterer was found for kitten and another Fosterer ( dear friend of mine ) was also found for mum ( who could have took kitten as well but I didnt know this at the time ). So mum cat is terrified and kitten to and both separated from each other and from what they had ever known. Now mum cat has now been neutered and to reunite after 4 days poses two problems, firstly mum has stitches and dont want kitten to try and suckle, second problem being that both being frightened gives us even less of a chance of bringing them round. Yet still instinct tells you that they need each other. So as a team we decided to get a vest for mum and take a chance. As you can see it was completely the right decision and not only because it feels right but kitten is surprisingly helping mum realise that humans can be trusted and for the first time has now enjoyed a head stroke. Fabulous outcome. These two babies will be coming to me as soon as I have room. Huge thank you to all involved and I guess it this has taught us all that sometimes, for the sake of the animals you just have to try :)
