(Paalaguttapalle) forwarding Umas note to Piyush. ... for reviving water in our villages, but there are also a lot of other possibilities, which are waiting for a team of young people to come and take interest. 1. Under NREGA the whole district including our village has been planted with mango. In fact farming field crops under rainfed as well as under irrigated conditions has almost stopped, so we will have to think of the whole region as an agro-eco-forest region which will help to regenerate water as well. 2. Since mango has been planted on an enormous scale we need to think of value addition possibilities beyond pulp factories and pickles(there are already a no. of pulp units in the district and since the only market for pulp is the Middle East, they are not doing too well)- like mango fruit dried flakes( like they sell in the airports of pineapple flakes), aamchoor, etc. and find markets for such new/traditional products. 3. We have a village ponds and tanks, (meaning eri , kulam, kuttai) which can double up as solar energy enterprises. New livelihoods have to be thought of in health, education and entertainment. All these need energetic, spirited young persons who will follow their dreams; and of course capital. I think capital is becoming easier than human resources. But i am sure there would be some you might know. Pl. help us with finding some spirited young persons; even a small team of two, three people can work wonders.
