War of the Worlds was broadcast 75 yrs ago and people went crazy. Nope. Another spoof exposed to me by On the Media. They chased it down to like maybe 6 people believed the broadcast and the media keeps trotting it out as the big dangerous thing that created mass hysteria. Part of the story comes from newspapers threatened by this new radio thing taking their business, so they were showing how radio is irresponsible and really dangerous. Sound like any of the exaggerated political msgs youve gotten lately? :-) The continuing part is, of course, medias laziness to report news and just trot out the good ol bogyman story again. OTM was pretty good this week. They also had a story about the NSA thwarting 54 terrorist attacks. Well, last month, the senate had a hearing. It seems that the 54 attack is really 4. One is that they caught some guy giving $8500 to a terrorist. Another was catching some foreigner donating to a terrorist. Another was that they used info given to them by the British secret service. So that leaves one. But, hey, having us in a police state with violated constitution all over the place and spending trillions of dollars to gather information to thwart one terrorist attack is worth it, right? Hmm, could we possibly be doing something with that money to more effectively shut down terrorism than keep funding this military-industrial complex entitlement? Im just askin...
