#Warbird Profile: Peerless VBairshow The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB.26 of the Military Aviation Museum, KA114, has become world famous since her restoration by New Zealands Avspecs Ltd. KA114 was first manufactured in Ontario, Canada, in 1945. After a brief stint with a reserve RCAF squadron in Nova Scotia, she was placed in cold storage. Sold in 1948 the orphaned de Havilland was transported to a farm in Alberta, where she languished for 30-years. By the time of her rescue the Mosquitos wooden airframe had deteriorated beyond all hope of repair. Recovered by a Canadian museum, the remains were eventually transferred to the MAM. All salvageable components were later reconstituted in a brand new fuselage, wing, and tail, fabricated by Mr. Glyn Powell of Auckland, NZ, whose lifes work has been the mastery and recreation of de Havillands lost techniques, for the manufacture of the Mosquito. KA114 remains the first and, to date, only DH.98 in the world to fly since 1996. The Mossie will most assuredly take to the skies at the next #Warbirds Over the Beach, from 16-18 May, 2014.
