Warmer weather = fishing trips = potential injured wildlife! A big thanks to Manifred Zabinskas of Five Freedoms Animal Rescue who recently brought a Cape Barren Goose with fishing line wrapped tightly around it’s leg to Werribee Open Range Zoo. The vet team were able to remove the fishing line and Manifred successfully released it back to the wild. While visitors may see a number of these birds nesting in the Zoos Woodlands Waterhole, they are actually one of the world’s rarest geese and considered vulnerable in the wild. If you are planning a fishing trip away, remember to discard your fishing line thoughtfully to protect our local wildlife.
