Warning: Dorky tangent ahead. Some dont quite grasp the full scale of interactive story engagement you can find in video games, but it is really quite common. Games arent just high scores anymore, rather they are emotional sculptures that aim to tug at your heart and mind. Modern games try to challenge you like books and films. However, it wasnt always that way. It used to be pretty rare. Yet, in 1994, a game called Earthbound was released, and was full of truly artful moments. One such moment in the game has always stuck with me. At one point, for no reason, the character Ness is offered a cup of coffee before he progresses. If you accept, you are treated to a 3 minute reflection on everything youve done so far, and some pure philosophy. So, just to share, here is the clip. Take out the specific names in the script, and you can apply this to everyday life. Its really insightful, and the music is great, and this was really ahead of its time in the sense that they put this in the game (when games were only made for children) just for style. Kudos to the game developers, because I think of this every morning when I have a cup of coffee, and it helps me have a better day. https://youtube/watch?v=9QBCH6jgFDY
