***Warning*** Long post but PLEASE read I believe Ive introduce you all to my own baby Chester. He was born in Azerbaijan and came to Dubai with us 4 years ago. I keep going on about how important it is to SAVE to take you cats with you and although we planned to stay in Dubai long than we have we had a small amount set aside for my 4 kitties and 1 dog. To Australia from Dubai it is VERY expensive and the Australian side is more than the Dubai side. No problem, I would pay any amount to keep my family together. 2 Days after landing in Australia they suspected he had fallen from a ledge and broken his leg so rushed him to a Sydney vet hospital. After lots of expensive tests it has been discovered that Chester had a undiagnosed heart disease. There was a blood clot in his heart the broke apart and lodged in his front leg causing him to be lame. After 4 days in intensive care they stabilized him and waited to see. But Chester decided to stop eating so a feeding tube was inserted. 2 weeks down the track he is stable but not improving despite medications and treatment on his leg. Two days ago the vet called to say they were concerned about tissue damage on his leg due to the blood supply being cut off. Tonight the vet contact me to say that his condition has deteriorated rapidly and that his leg is dying and should be removed ASAP. Of course because of his heart disease the anesthesia is extremely risky. So why am I sharing this? simply because I want people to seriously consider if they can afford to adopt pets. just having an airfare is not always enough. What this means for our family is that we have chosen to save Chester by using the money we had put aside to buy a house when we get home. Please say a pray for him so that I can see him again. But let his story stay with you and seriously understand the financial obligations when you bring an animal into your family. DO NOT ADOPT IF YOU CAN NOT AFFORD UNEXPECTED EMERGENCIES. They are worth it.
