Warning: Pre Australia day RANT: What is this Aussie way I keep hearing about, last time I checked we were a land of immigrants, a big beautiful melting pot of different cultures with cultural influences pinched from all of the different nationalities we are fortunate enough to have in Australia. We are the Aboriginals. We are the Convict settlers. We are the Italians and the Germans and the Chinese, The Arabic, The Middle Eastern, The French, The Greek, The Lebanese... We are one but we are many. To speak of and promote this Aussie Way just makes me confused? Live our way of life or get out? Why not just let people live. Let them speak whatever language they like. Let them dress how they want. Let them integrate in a way that suits them. Let them add to our already beautiful, mixed up country. Besides, just because you eat a pie and they eat dahl, because they cover their heads and you dont, because they speak their first language with their friends instead of english, because they practice a different religion to you, raise their children with different values..it does NOT make them any less Aussie than you. Why is YOUR way any more the Aussie way than theirs is? What gives you the right to tell them to live like you or get out. to go back to their country if they love it so much Well, in most cases they have fled from war, persecution and horrors your privileged mind could never even comprehend or they would never have left. they escaped laws they did not agree with..for a better life..but that doesnt mean they should give up their idnetity and culture just to suit YOU and your way of life. you throw rocks at them when their down?! Tell them to get out?! Kicking someone when their down, Being scared of other cultures,thats going to become the Aussie way if we arent careful. We are ONE world. Protect everyone, embrace everyone, and use your energy for something worthwhile, if you dont fight the palm oil crisis and the other serious environmental issues going on there will be no world to protect from these social issues you perpetuate and create. You know what is more important than protecting your way of life..expanding your mind and changing it.
