Warning long post!! so this is what I have so far, please give me your opinion. Does it sound good or does it need reworking? When looking at the words "greater works" that is spoken of in John 14:12, the church in general tends to focus on the miracles that Christ performed during his ministry here on earth. Although those are indeed great works, that will not be the focus of this paper. The terms "greater works" will be explored in light of the finished work of the cross as it pertains to the greatest miracle of all that being salvation and a transformed life which could not occur without the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit within the believer. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts, confirms, and restores us the sinner. It is this miracle that is truly the "greater works" that exists within the Christian church today. Through our testimony, souls are saved and lives are transformed. It is through these changed lives that the greater works are accomplished. In John 14:12 Jesus tells us "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father" (NLT). It is this, lives being changed, bondages loosed, chains broken that can only be accomplished through the finished work of the cross. A truly transformed life is the greater work which in and of ourselves cannot be accomplished without the Holy Spirit residing in us and working through us to accomplish the great commission of preaching the gospel to all the world. What is the gospel but simply the power of the finished work of the atoning blood that brings all mankind back into fellowship with the Father.
