Warning: yet another animal related rant by me. Just a few - TopicsExpress

Warning: yet another animal related rant by me. Just a few opinions, observations, whatever you want to call them. Most of my rescue friends will probably understand where Im coming from. Nothing bad has happened in my presence at adoption events, but I see the potential for it all the time. Just because you look at a mixed breed dog/puppy and dont know what breed it is does not mean its a Pit Bull. Just a few breeds I have seen assumed to be Pits include Catahoulas (all the freaking time), Boxers, Lab mixes, American Bulldogs. Even my Rufus. No idea what he is but I seriously doubt Pit Bull is in his DNA. Anyone who knows me at all knows I love all dogs and have nothing against Pits. Assuming a dog is a Pit Bull who isnt is just wrong because of their bad reputation that is undeserved in my opinion. Just for fun, see how you do: fox2now/2013/02/06/poll-can-you-spot-the-pitbull/ If you go to a pet store with an adoption event going on, it is not cool to leave your child to look at the dogs while you shop. The people watching the dogs have no desire to babysit your unattended child. Especially if your kid is annoying the dogs by pestering them and screaming in their faces. If anything were to happen, it would be the fault of the negligent parent(s). However, the dog would most likely be blamed. Please be responsible if you choose to use a retractable leash. If your dog is 20 feet away from you, it is most definitely not in your control or even line of sight. Anything can happen. Your dog doesnt know my foster and that is definitely not the proper way to do dog introductions. If my dog reacted poorly he would probably be blamed even though youre the one being irresponsible. I, and my dogs, are not perfect by any means. Most of my dogs are a work in progress. I completely admit the dog I brought to adoptions today is far from perfect. I hope he will get better with time there and I really think he will. All I am asking is that other people not set him (and others like him) up to fail.
