Was able to fit in a visit to the Peter Fetterman Gallery in Santa Monica today--in time for Stephen Wilkes opening reception of his series titled, Day to Night, which is a great collection of color composite photographs. These composite images are each made over the course of several hours. For example, the Tunnel View picture was made over the course of 26 hours. I found his work to be visually stunning, while the colors are a bit pushed, I felt his attention to detail and compositional design overshadowed his tendency for color saturation. Color is difficult to pull off, it can be very tempting to punch colors up and go nuts with saturation, but I think in Wilkes case he gets away with it somewhat unscathed.
