Was already VERY much looking forward to seeing friend James Walsh - TopicsExpress

Was already VERY much looking forward to seeing friend James Walsh as the patriarch in the musical Mary Poppins in a swift sojourn from NYC to Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island when the show wraps up on August 16... But after reading this RAVE review? Im doubly so. Only wish mutual friend Frances Fisher (I met them both as very happy neighbors-then-dear-friends at my last festive abode in Hwood) could be there with me. Show itself got sparking reviews. But I bet even James was a bit taken aback (MAYBE even a teensy bit delighted) to have a full half of the review devoted to his characters journey and his performance of it. Talk about making an impact! Here is that portion AND a link to the full review. The show is largely about the life lessons Mary teaches the unruly Banks kids, who have gone through a string of nannies. But it’s also about the emergence of George, the patriarch of the Banks clan. He makes the journey from a guy obsessed about his job at the bank to a man who learns to put family first. The big crisis that come crashing into this child-like world comes when George turns down a loan for a man with a plan to make millions. The bank chairman thinks George blew it, until Von Hussler’s proposal goes bust and almost sinks the rival bank that granted the loan, turning George into a hero. How did he know not to give the money to Von Hussler, J.P. Ferragamo’s bank chairman asks? “There wasn’t a word about people,” says George. “There are more important things in life than making money,” he says after returning to his job at quadruple his salary. Interestingly, James Andrew Walsh, who gives George a heart, last appeared at Theatre By The Sea 40 years ago, in Mary Poppins. IN CLOSING (me again)? Theatre-by-the-Sea is apparently one of the best theaters in the region so my vote is... If youre ANYWHERE nearby, plan a trip...and let me know if it will coincide with mine on August 16! providencejournal/features/entertainment/content/20140726-theater-review-matunucks-mary-poppins-soars.ece
