Was chatting with a Frank Zappa fan(not from the AV) and he passed this tidbit along. His high school English teacher, Don Cerveris, wrote the screenplay for a low-budget western that starred Mercedes McCambridge and recruited Frank to write the score. With the money from that he bought the Gibson ES-335 Switchmaster guitar that he used for many years with the original Mothers and a recording studio in Cucamonga that he renamed Studio Z . He has a number of songs in his catalog that reference the different places that he lived : The instrumental Little House I Used to Live In references the Lancaster house he grew up in; Cucamonga ; but my favorite is Village of the Sun about a town east of Palmdale you might be familiar with - purists like the Roxy and Elsewhere version, but i like the fast version recorded in Helsinki in 1974 : Goin back home To the Village of the Sun Out in back of Palmdale Where the turkey farmers run, I done Made up my mind And I know Im gonna go to Sun Village, good God I hope the Wind dont blow It take the paint off your car And wreck your windshield too, I dont know how the people stand it, But I guess they do Cause theyre all still there, Even Johnny Franklin too In the Village of the Sun Village of the Sun Village of the Sun, son (Sun Village to you-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo, well!) Little Mary, and Teddy, and Thelma too, now Where Palmdale Boulevard, wo! Cuts on through Past the Village Inn, well, & Barbecue now, yeah (I heard it aint there . . . Well I hope it aint true) Where the stumblers gonna go To watch the lights turn blue? Where the stumblers gonna go To watch the lights turn blue-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-wahhh? https://youtube/watch?v=QZywY3H47N4
