Was driving through Taunton yesterday and everywhere there are new housing sites been started but why. We have a government that is mad keen to cover this land in new houses, concrete and tarmac, yet there is very little new employment (actual jobs are been lost in this area) no increase in school places, doctors, dentist or anything else to support this mass house building programme that this country is embarking upon. Why do we need so many new houses when most people find it hard to earn enough money just to live let alone borrow thousands to buy a tiny new house on a massive estate which will become a millstone around their neck once interest rates start to rise as they must sometime soon. Should we not be refurbishing flats above high street shops, converting empty office blocks to housing, using every brownfield site possible and building good quality, affordable homes for all and not lining the pockets of 4 or 5 big house builders who thirst for greenfield sites is only outstripped by there greed for huge profits?
