Was going to post this last week, on the 30 year anniversary, but might as well now. This is one of my all time favorite albums, a synthpop masterpiece that was released in 1984. Every track is incredible. Marian Gold, lead singer, was heavily influenced by Freddie Mercury of Queen, and he has the most incredible vocal range. The keyboard player, Bernd Lloyd, weaves intricate melodies, almost classical arrangements. The other guy in the band, Frank Mertens, left after this record. He apparently helped with the arrangements as well as drum programming on a LinnDrum, LM-1, TR-808. I covered the song A Victory of Love on one of my EPs and took the song apart piece by piece. I was amazed at the complexity and work it took to create this song. I was also happy to meet Marian Gold backstage in Salt Lake City on their one and only tour of the USA. I got to ask a lot of questions about the making of the album, what synths were used etc. Simply a masterpiece of 80s synthpop, both analog (Jupiter-8) and digital (PPG Wave).
