Was heartbroken to hear the news of Robin Williams death while at COP Bala Hissar here in Afghanistan. Was told he had passed by some VERY sad soldiers. He was crazy, funny, incredibly quick, and I remember being assignedhomework at Brockton High School, to review new TV shows. As luck would have it, I chose Mork and Mindy! He was hilarious and nutty, and I remember writing that I thought he was going to be a big star! (I obviously had no idea HOW big!) He reminded me a lot of Jonathan Winters, whom I also loved, and thought was hilarious. Years later, I found he was a HUGE fan of Winters, and emulated some of his mannerisms. Robin Williams connected with Soldiers, Sailors Marines and Airmen, because in his own way, he WAS one of us! Just a regular guy, who took the time to entertain US, and poke fun at the brass when he could. I dont think there is another comedian quite like him, nor will there ever be. So saddened to know he is gone. Rest in peace Thank you SO much for the laughs, and a chance to forget for just a few minutes that we were stuck in such a shitty environment!
