Was it Winston Churchill that said the best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter? Today, the discussion was about whether the statement of result released by Buharis old school is genuine because it was dated today. Tomorrow it may be about why Buharis first name was spelled Mohamed instead of the Muhammadu that weve gotten used to. Yesterday, it was about the Army not having copies of Buharis WASC. Few days earlier, it was about a fake laboratory test analysis on a fale letter-head and much earlier it was whether Buhari slumped or he stumbled in Uyo. One time, it was whether he should have worn his cap while attending a church service he was invited to. When will the discussion get to issues such as Buharis plan for fighting insurgency and how the present government has performed in the same fight? When are we going to discuss how the APCs proposal to provide N5,000 monthly stipend to those at the bottom of the pyramid would be financed and why, if it was feasible, the PDP has not done such in 16 years? When are we going to discuss how the APC plans to deal with our power crises and why the PDP has consistently failed to meet its targets for power supply? When are we going to discuss how the two parties would deal with a scenario where crude oil price stays at less than $30 per barrel for more than six months? When will the austerity measures shock-wave reach the NASS and Presidency or is it when the poverty shock-wave inundates the common-man completely? Why are we not discussing what we expect from the government when it comes to fighting corruption?
