Was just wondering if I could name 10 books to have had an effect on me, when Prachi Mehta tags me! The books are in no particular order, just naming them as I remember them. So here goes: 1. The Lord of the Flies by William Golding - it have me the goosebumps for days to think of the savagery and bloodthirstiness packed in a bunch of kids. 2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - when I read it, I was in no position to believe in its when you really want something to happen, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it. And then life happened - I stand happily corrected. 3. Paradise Lost Book 1 by John Milton - the sheer visual brilliance that the verses created and the amount of information they packed left me stunned. 4. The Shiva Triology by Amish - such retelling of myths is important to revive interest, and to make them palatable for people like me. 5. Pretty Woman by Fern Michaels - this is a chick flick that has been more than a passing read for me. The importance of learning to love yourself despite what the rest of the world says and being true to yourself stayed with me. 6. Jodi Picoults Mercy - when Asna gave me this book on love, cheating, forgiveness and the mortality of everything, she said its heart-breaking, but its real. I have to agree. 7. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - We are capable of so much, and not all of it is pretty. Do we really have the courage to face all that we are or can be? 8. Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw - flimsy social constructs, nuances of language, a tough, spirited woman and a frustratingly attractive man...need I say more? 9. 1984 by George Orwell - dystopia at its scariest yet for me, where you have none to believe or trust - not even yourself. Is it really that easy to convert people to helpless herds? 10. Anthem by Ayn Rand - more than the dystopia it packs, the importance of differentiating between the self and the society, and having an ego left an impact on me. Phew! thats it. Arun John, Asna Yar Khan and Joyel Pious, your turn to share :D
