Was looking for an overview of Psalm 1 to share, and I found this, which I agree with 100%. I seriously doubt that the average Christian is much of a student of the Scriptures. ... A part of the reason may be that good preaching is so readily available, both on radio and television, on the printed page, and by means of audio and video recordings. Perhaps Christians have concluded that a personal study of the Bible is unnecessary because we have professionals who can do the work for us and share the cream of their study with us, saving us the effort. Since Psalm 1 (the first Psalm of the Psalter) and Psalm 119 (the longest) both exhort the reader to become a student of Scripture, this must be a matter of high priority. What more appropriate way to begin a study of the Psalms than to consider the importance of such a study, not just from the pulpit, but from our personal time in the Word of God throughout the week.
