Was on Bill Jackameits site featuring vintage Studebakers. My dad had a 57 Silver Hawk just like this - V8, black, fast, beautiful. Sometimes Dad would sit me between his legs when I was a toddler as we wound around the back roads of western Pennsylvania. I remember that polished aluminum dash as if it were yesterday. Dad would tell me to blow out the red light, Billy (the high beam indicator) Id puff at it, and (unbeknownst to me) Dad would switch the high beams off. Nope, I wasnt covered in bubble wrap and restrained in a government approved safety seat, but somehow I survived. (Dad would be in jail today for Child endangerment.) Im not a everything was better back then kind of guy, but the overall government load was a lot less in our lives then. Too bad the Studebaker wasnt able to survive its battle with road salt, but it was a great car, and left behind even better memories.
