Was salvation finished in the Philippian jailer by his believing - TopicsExpress

Was salvation finished in the Philippian jailer by his believing in the Lord Jesus Christ? ...They caught Paul and Silas... And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison... At midnight Paul and Silas prayed... and all the doors were opened, and everyones bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison... fell down before Paul and Silas, and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be (future tense) saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night... and was baptized he and all his straightway -Acts 16:19-33. Examine the above passage carefully, and ask yourself honestly- -Did the apostles ever tell him his salvation was, or would be obtained (past tense) the moment he believed, or was that promise left in the future tense? -Is it clear by this passage that his belief need only be confessed once for all time, or that it was to be practiced continually? -What exactly was the word of the Lord that compelled him and all his house to be baptized in the middle of the night? Will those who believe in God, but dont put their belief into action, be saved? Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers... drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things ...Neither be ye idolaters... Neither let us commit fornication ... Neither let us tempt Christ... Neither murmur ye, as some of them...and were destroyed... Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition... Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall -1 Corinthians 10:1-12. I will therefore put you in remembrance... how that the Lord having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not -Jude 5.
