Watch and Act Issued For: West Wodonga, Wodonga Fire Origin: West Wodonga Incident Name: CFA - West Wodonga - Plunketts Road Issued: 16/12/14 6:48 PM This is a Watch and Act message issued by Country Fire Authority for West Wodonga, Wodonga. There is a large 170 hectare grassfire travelling slow in a easterly direction from Black Range Road towards West Wodonga. This grassfire is currently not yet under control. The fire could impact West Wodonga any time today (Tuesday). Fire-fighters are in attendance and are attacking the fire. Heavy machinery and aircraft are operating in the area. Conditions remain severe and may worsen given the current weather conditions. Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are expected. Property owners and landholders in the West Wodonga area are asked to remain vigilant and alert, be prepared to implement their fire plans and listen for updates as conditions may deteriorate quickly. Smoke will be visible and may impact local communities. People affected by smoke should seek assistance through there local health services. Smoke is heavy in the area of the Hume freeway from Klings hill (Bald Hill) to the west of Wodonga. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution The Cube, Hovell street, Wodonga has been established as a relief centre. Representatives of Wodonga Council, Red Cross and DHS will be available. Plunketts Road, West Wodonga and Coyles Road are closed to the public. Traffic management points are in place. Vehicular access only to business owners and residents with appropriate photo identification. When driving, slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see. Safety Information: Remember to take your prescriptions and medication, photo ID, bottles of water, your mobile phone and charger and consider what you will do with your pets.
