Watch live streaming video of an ROV in action today! A team from the University of Washington is in the midst of an 83 day mission on board the Research Vessel Thomas G. Thompson to lay cable and instrumentation for the NSF’s Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) offshore. They are using a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) named “ROPOS” which has made and will continue to make several dives to install cable and instrumentation on the sea floor. Visit the VISIONS ’14 website to see live video and read a description of the mission and daily logs, and view video clips from ROV dives conducted over the past several days. If the weather cooperates and your timing is right, you may see ROPOS in the middle of a dive today! In addition to scientists, engineers and vessel crew, you’ll notice the expedition team also includes a few undergraduate students and educators, some of whom are blogging about their experience.
