Watched the 50th anniv show about the Beatles tonight. The performance of the song Yellow Submarine brought back a memory. After I finished my U S Army infantry training I was ordered to become a member of The Old Guard at Ft Myer, Virginia. They are the parade and show troops that guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and serve at burial ceremonies at Arlington. Somebody messed up big time as I was well under the 6 height requirement. While I was there waiting transfer orders the October 1967 march on the Pentagon began. When the soldiers returned to Ft Myer from their duties of surrounding the pentagon to protect it from damages they brought with them a paper mache yellow submarine that they had captured. It was about 12 long and had a black peace sign painted on the conning tower. The soldiers had charged out into the protesters, captured it, and brought it back to sit on the porch of the platoons barracks. It was well made and looked quite cool! By the way - loved the show tonight but could not stand seeing Yoko Ono. I think I dislike her about as much as Jane Fonda. :(
