Watched this last night. I enjoyed it immensely, which is not to say it does not have flaws. The main flaw is that it requires you to suspend disbelief and go with the flow - the title character possesses an almost supernatural ability to find water (water dowsing is, of course, paranormal / pseudo-scientific nonsense) and other important stuff (like his missing sons). But if youre willing the let go of your skeptical mind, the story flows along nicely. The second flaw is the willingness to paint most of the formerly warring parties (ANZACS/Brits and Turks) with much sympathy (especially the Turks), and yet still create a group of villains (the invading Greeks) without giving them much nuance. We arent really told why the Greeks are invading, they are not depicted as individuals, simply cardboard villains, and their role in the movie appear to simply be the bad guys in a movie without (any real) bad guys. But, despite all that, I enjoyed it, and you probably would, too. The performances from Russell Crowe, Olga Kurylenko, Cem Yilmaz and Yilmaz Erdogan are uniformly good.
