Watching Survivor tonight, and watching the exchange between Hayden and Kat. I realize what a one sided marriage I had. For 21 years I spent all of my efforts putting my partner first, ahead of even myself. I went AWOL from the Marines when Lauren was born. Even stole a car. I took off a month of work unpaid for her hysterectomy. I took off a month of work, unpaid for her open heart surgery. We were in debt from the day we were married because of her medical problems. I never grumbled, never complained. I would do it again......... I actually prayed that God could afflict me with her problems so she would not have to endure them. Only to have her decide that after 21 years, that she was not happy and that she could do better. I envy the love that is displayed on Survivor, when a couple, or family members, or simply friends, have to make a decision that affects both of them. I envy most the fact that there are EQUAL partners in that relationship that are BOTH willing to sacrifice WHATEVER so that their partner would be better off. I Envy that love that I realize I never had.
