Watching sky news annoyed at the undignified showing of a Sierra leone ladys grief at the loss of a loved one... As the report continues in wildlife documentary fashion, with grieving and burial still proceeding in the background, it struck me how often I have seen this image of African and Africas played out In the media. A white person would have been afforded more dignity in similar circumstances in any country. There would be uproar were this not the case. How do you feel about the way Africa and Africans are portrayed in the Western media? What effect does this have? Possibly slightly more interestingly, what casual examples of white privilege do you observe in society?
