Watching the protests in Sao Paolo surely should raise our own doubts about the grand game of being cheated through the aggregation of tiny specks of currency that sports allows. Kalmadis scam was monumental corruption, but what we dont take as serious gross violation of our emotions and spirit is cricket and in its baji maro - betting friendly avatar IPL and now soon to be launched the football league. Firstly who allows and regulates the auctioning and the prices for teams? Sachin Tendulkar has no prior experience in football and why should his team represent Kerala? Why cant we have more able teams compete with each other to be able to come to a decision that decides a premier league on merit rather than the money power industrialists, movie actors and retired sportspersons bring with them to buy retired merit? Why do betting scams not expose the betting syndicate, that flourishes alongside all matches, people discuss rates on the street? Why has Ranji been so forgotten? Well can Mohameddan sporting or East Bengal compete with the money power of a bollywood actor and his investment banker partner? Will football be as impotent as the list of failed promises?
