Watching the real time rebroadcast of the events of the weekend of the Kennedy assassination. popwatch.ew/2013/11/22/cbs-livestream-1963-assassination/ In a panel discussion termed Whats next for our country? this afternoon, there was a discussion about the lessons to be learned from this. They talked a lot about hate, guns, and there was a token mention of mental health. One proposal was that wherever we see hate, we should not laugh at or dismiss it, but rather address it, even confront it. They hypothesized that a stable man with hate in his heart would not let himself express that emotion through violence, but a not-so-stable man might make a more deadly choice. That we each bear a responsibility to speak up when we witness the presence of such a deadly emotion. The tones of this conversation sounded like 2013, with one exception. I believe we are more aware of mental health component now than we were then - or at least we intend to put more emphasis there, these days. There will be a discussion at that link about gun control in a few minutes - at 8 pm Eastern. It will be interesting to compare their positions then (1963) with the tones that same discussion assumes today.
