Watching this interpretation of rage/madness from Giselle makes me - TopicsExpress

Watching this interpretation of rage/madness from Giselle makes me realize why I find myself drawn more and more to the beauty of ballet, and why I am so offended when people say that the old school opera singers couldnt or didnt act. I dont agree; they act with their voices. Opera is a sylized art, and the focus is on acting with the voice first and foremost. Ballet is similar in that what is communicated is done with stylized movement first, while trusting to the humanity of the audience and the expressive power of the music to move dancer and audience member alike. Of course without sincere emotional intention, nothing can be transmitted, no matter how perfect the technique, to the audience, but the technique must come first, and the art will follow... That is one reason why those golden age opera singers were so exciting. For those with tastes that run to strict versimilitude in acting, you might be better served in spoken word theatre, cinema verité, or by just sitting at a café and people watching... Me? I want all the beauty.
