Water supply in Tacloban City back to normal TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 17 (PNA)--Water supply in Tacloban City has normalized, according to Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) representative Byron Carbon. In a coordination meeting at the command center based at Leyte Sports Academy on Sunday, Carbon reported that the water treatment plant based in Pastrana town that provides water to the Leyte Metropolitan Water District (LMWD) has been restored. On standby are some 3,000 liters of fuel provided by the United Nations Childrens Fund to ensure the continuous operation of the treatment plant. While the water pressure is strong, he also cautioned, that there are instances that the water supply might drop depending on the extent of its utilization. Carbon said that water coming from pipelines are chlorinated. They also have mobile testing units that will determine the quality of the water. Teams were also deployed to check on pipelines that were damaged by the typhoon. The public is also advised not to destroy water pipelines. LMWD has around 29,000 concessionaries from Leyte’s seven municipalities and Tacloban City. Its 32.448 –kilometer transmission pipeline from the new plant is already operational and it is utilized exclusively for Tacloban City. Carbon also announced that they are also checking on other water districts in the region to check on their operations. The Japan International Cooperation Agency is also augmenting a water treatment plant that will be deployed to Basey in Samar where the water facility is totally washed out. (PNA) PDS/PGLENA
