Way to go FB Peeps!!!! If you havent heard, talks are scheduled for Monday to keep the concert series going. When we started rallying on Thursday, there were approx 250 signatures. Now its over 1,500! Please, if youve not yet signed this, it only take 5 seconds. If you can share on your page and tag friends, please do. If you dont know what Im talking about, in a nutshell: for those of us that grew up in or near Washington, DC, the Fort Reno Concert Series, held every summer since 1968 on the highest spot in DC - a grassy area between Alice Deal JHS and Woodrow Wilson High School - has been a rite of passage. Your parent’s band may have played there (think Danny Gatton, Liz Meyer, Root Boy Slim, The Slickee Boys), then yours did (Fugazi, Jawbox, Dismemberment Plan) and maybe someday soon your own kid’s band could. This has been a safe place for friends, family and community to come together on warm summer evenings for close to 50 years. The National Park Service is now placing demands on the concert series to pay for an officer - that has never before been needed - or else no more series. The summer shows are VERY close to being cancelled!!! So if you think local music and safe community activities for kids, teens and families are a great thing, please consider signing as well as sharing. Fort Reno concerts were a great part of my teen years and I hope many more kids get to experience them.
