In the election which was keenly contested, Mr. Austin Ibok defeated the erstwhile chairman of the party, Barrister Remi Agwazie with 38 votes against 20, Mr. Elijah Blackman won the position of secretary by defeating Dr. Ewa with twenty five votes as against twenty four while Elizabeth Obo was defeated by Emmanuel Adi for the post of Treasurer by garnering twenty two votes against twenty one . Madam Ashu Caroline was elected Women Leader while George Andoigwu was elected the youth leader of the party. Addressing the delegates after the election in an acceptance speech, Mr. Ibok said the party has been re-engineered in the state and will battle the PDP in the coming 2015 General Elections by fielding candidates to contest in all the elected positions across the state “Let me assure all of you here that in 2015 Labour Party will be the most credible, most acceptable and the most sought after party in Cross River State and even if we may not succeed in chasing PDP away, they will not win all the seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly as was the case in the past.” He said the party will soon undertake the process of new membership registration to take new members in all the eighteen local government areas and the wards to boost the party’s ranks in readiness for the 2015 election. Mrs. Ima Nsa Adegoke, the 2011 governorship candidate said the party will now begin the process of growth through membership drive and assured that the party will not be a push over in 2015 elections. follow NEWS on twitter @crossriverwatch
