We Won They Surrender! Journalist Rodney Sieh has finally been - TopicsExpress

We Won They Surrender! Journalist Rodney Sieh has finally been released and the messy case against him has been completely dropped. The Supreme Court announced his release today and Siehs FrontPage Africa media is to reopen. His release is thought to be based on the decision of his accuser, former Agriculture Minister, Chris Toe, to drop the shameful case against journalist Sieh and his media entity. In this public manner, I would like to cautiously commend President Sirleaf and her Supreme Court and all those involved in the release of journalist Sieh and the quashing of the case against him and his media entity. Equally, President Sirleaf and her government must now demonstrate the will to prosecute Dr Toe and all officials indicted and linked to corruption and abuse of public resources. As a former Agriculture Minister, Dr Toe, was indicted by the General Auditing Commission of failing to account for over 10 million US dollars - a report that Sieh and his media extensively exposed, something that landed them into trouble. President Sirleaf and her government must also repeal libel laws and all anti-media laws including criminal malevolence and defamation. President Sirleaf and her government must further review the award of damages in a libel case as the Supreme Court and Liberias jury system were fatally exposed after they shamelessly imposed1.6 million US dollars damage fees on journalist Sieh and FrontPageAfrica - which in all senses could and cannot be paid. Now that Sieh is released and FrontPageAfrica is to reopen, I would like congratulate him and his staff along with the brave men and women of the Liberian media for the courage and affirmative actions taken to secure the unconditional release of journalist Sieh and the end of the messy case against him. International press freedom groups and media as well as local and international human rights and civil society are also commended for the strong fight. Liberians who stood by Sieh and the media are nuch appreciated. Sieh is freed at last and FrontPageAfrica is now to resume normal operations! Siehs release is a victory for investigative journalism and if President Sirleaf and her government must join us in celebrations, she and her government need to muster the courage and will to prosecute accused corrupt officials to ensure accountability. We have indeed won as the evil forces have surrendered and Sieh is a free man!!!
