We all talk about poverty eradication and doing good for the less - TopicsExpress

We all talk about poverty eradication and doing good for the less fortunate but how much of our good intentions actually translate into meaningful actions? This Ramadan, I urge all my friends to ask their parents and those who are earning themselves to revaluate how to best distribute their Zakat amongst the needy. Most people still have an ancient misconception of Zakat where they pay individually by giving out saris and lungis but that really doesnt make the slightest difference in the longer run. Those who do pay their Zakat prefer giving it individually as it feels more satisfactory but in the end, a pooled sum of money makes a much bigger impact. Last year, Center for Zakat Management (CZM) collected and distributed approximately 50m BDT but research shows that Bangladeshis have the wealth to raise 250bn BDT per year. Enough to give each poor family of Bangladesh 2m BDT. However, the main barrier we need to overcome is lack of information. So Im doing my part by sharing this and introducing you to CZM. If you need any information packet(s) regarding CZM and its activities let me know and Ill send it over or even have someone contact you from their office. Heres the cover story on this weeks Daily Star magazine about Zakat and CZM: bit.ly/1t9qMXN For more information: czm-bd.org
