We all thought we were done with the polar vortex that hit last winter, but now the Michigan grape and wine industry is seeing the fall out. Grape growers are saying the severe cold weather that hit Michiana from January to March damaged their grapevines resulting in a 50 percent reduction in the size of the wine grape crop. Certain varieties like merlot, chardonnay and pinot noir are the most susceptible to damage from the prolonged cold.
