We all were honored to attend our dear friend, Joannes funeral. Her husband of 61 years was permitted to leave the VA hospital for the day. We shared so many tears with Horace today. Our hearts were heavy at the graveside as Horace was slowly walked to Joannes side for the last time. She was buried next to her first child, a son who passed in infancy in 1946. We were asked to go by their home tonight to pick up Christmas china Joanne left to our girls. They may not appreciate it now, but I am very honored to receive the heirlooms for Emma and Clara.
