We appreciated the robust dialogue that arose when we announced - TopicsExpress

We appreciated the robust dialogue that arose when we announced that the BIA would host a listening session to examine the ICWA State Guidelines for State Courts during our conference. Therefore, we wanted to remind and encourage you to submit your written comments to the BIA. The deadline for written comments is TOMORROW, April 30, 2014. More than 30 years have passed since the guidelines were first published. The BIA is seeking comments on the effectiveness of the guidelines from tribal leaders and designees. Specifically, they want to know: 1. Should BIA provide training or guidance for tribes on the tribes’ role in ICWA compliance? 2. What role, if any, should BIA have in the ICWA agreement process between tribes and states? 3. Should BIA make any revisions to its regulations implementing ICWA (found at 25 CFR 23)? 4. If so, what revisions should it make? Email your comments to [email protected]. To learn more, visit bia.gov/WhoWeAre/BIA/OIS/HumanServices/IndianChildWelfareAct/index.htm
