We are all aware of the horrors inflicted by Yolanda in the Visayas, particularly in Leyte. Many communities were shocked by the unprecedented damage—but they were also unfazed. In the past year, members of Leyte communities worked hard with groups from various sectors to bring themselves back up on their feet. In Javier and Tacloban, we worked with the local government units, Hapinoy, and our donors for livelihood interventions. In June, we ceremonially turned over Hapinoy stores to 10 families in Javier and 10 families in Tacloban so they could once again be a part of the economic activity in their communities. Today, the stores are thriving—one proof among many that the people of Leyte are always ready to rise up from any challenge. #AsOneWeCan Rebuild, Recover, Revitalize.
