We are all settlers. All human beings are settlers on this earth. Those who think that they are not settlers, but are somehow rooted in a particular soil, and, inherently, own, and, naturally, possess, the piece of land they now live on, are only fooling themselves. No human being, no human community, has created, or brought to another place, even a single inch of this earth on which we live. We all found it and have settled to live on it. So we are all settlers. There are only earlier settlers and later settlers. This is true in Nigeria and in all other countries in the world. The universal religions of Christianity and Islam are very clear and categorical on this. According to these two great religions, it was the Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth. No piece of this earth was created by any racial, tribal, ethnic, or, national, group. So, no race, or tribe, has an inherent, absolute, natural, ownership of a single piece of this earth. We are all settlers with various claims of rights of occupation and of use, depending on the political and legal systems in each country. In any case, the most advanced scientific research has, over the last three decades, established, that all of mankind have common ancestors, who lived in north-eastern Africa, somewhere between present day, Kenya and Ethiopia, about 150,000 years ago. It was from that particular part of the world that humanity spread to settle in all the rest of the earth. Genetic evidence from studies of the DNA, indicates that we are all, about 7,500 generations away from these common ancestors. These scientific findings, are consistent with the notion of the common ancestry of all of humanity, from Adam and Eve, as revealed in the Holy Bible and the Holy Quran. It was from these common ancestors, who lived in this north-eastern African cradle of mankind, about one hundred and fifty millennia ago, that all of us migrated to settle, in various parts of the world.
