We are at a defining moment for nightlife. Once predominately indie, nurtured by fans inspired by the music and community, EDM was, for a time, an under-the-radar scene left over from the 90s rave explosion. Quietly going about its business, the nearly 15-year-old Ultra Music Festival in Miami, for example, made barely a blip until the last few years when it blew up enough to attract businessmen like Sillerman, who has trumpeted his intentions to own EDM. Even Burning Man, as reported on PAPERMAG, has become the haven of Wall Street party people who bling out their motor homes and use black Amex cards to purchase thousands of dollars worth of vintage clothing to create their costumes.
